The Pension Transitional Arrangement Directorate (PTAD) received a high-profile oversight visit from the House of Representatives Committee on Pensions on Tuesday, September 9, 2025, at its Abuja headquarters. The visit was aimed at evaluating PTAD’s operational performance and scrutinizing its budgetary execution for 2024 and the first half of 2025.

Leading the delegation, Committee Chairman Honourable Jallo Hussaini Mohammed, engaged with PTAD’s leadership to discuss achievements and challenges faced by the Directorate. The Executive Secretary of PTAD, Tolulope Odunaiya, warmly welcomed the Committee, expressing appreciation for the legislature’s continued support, which has been crucial in driving reforms and enhancing pension service delivery.
Highlighting the Directorate’s key accomplishments, Odunaiya underscored the successful integration of the 20% and 28% pension increments implemented from January 2024 into the September 2024 pension payroll, alongside the full payment of accrued arrears. She also noted ongoing efforts to disburse arrears related to the N32,000, 10.66%, and 12.95% pension increments, which have been sustained through prudent management of available funds.

In a significant disclosure, Odunaiya revealed that PTAD had secured Presidential approval for several pension-related initiatives slated for inclusion in the 2026 budget proposal. These initiatives encompass funding for full implementation of the N32,000 pension increment, settlement of outstanding unfunded pension liabilities, a proposed pension harmonization policy, and health insurance coverage for Defined Benefit Scheme (DBS) pensioners.
Emphasizing PTAD’s unwavering commitment to DBS pensioners, the Executive Secretary recognized the crucial oversight role played by the National Assembly in fortifying Nigeria’s pension framework. She also candidly outlined some of the challenges confronting the Directorate and appealed for legislative support to surmount these hurdles.
Responding on behalf of the Committee, Honourable Jallo Hussaini Mohammed praised PTAD for its substantial progress in streamlining pension payments and enhancing beneficiary satisfaction. He reassured that the Committee would maintain close collaboration with PTAD to uphold and improve the welfare of DBS pensioners, reaffirming the matter as a national priority.
This oversight visit signals a strengthened partnership between PTAD and the House Committee on Pensions, fostering transparency, accountability, and sustained improvements in Nigeria’s pension administration.
