GOVERNOR KEFAS AGBU ON THE SCALE OF HISTORY AND PERFORMANCE: GAINS AND EXPECTATIONS OF RETREAT AND INDUCTION TRAINING

By Raymond Enoch

When Executive Governor of Taraba State, Dr Kefas Agbu was elected, sworn in and assumed reign of power of Taraba State, many were not clear about how his preface and step of governance would be, given the abysmal performance of the previous government which seem to have taken the state a decade back in its performance indices, especially how it managed people and resources that meets the yearning of the electorates

Paradigm News have followed keenly the trails of the Executive Governor , and indeed even the opposition parties would attest to one fact , that the Executive Governor is clear in his mind on what he think ‘‘governance’’ is,  the place of people of in it and the salient essence of maintaining trust, keeping campaign promises and delivering of one’s mandate.

From security, natural resource management, Education, Gender inclusiveness, youth involvement in policy and decision making process to inclusivity in governance, he has proved to be diligent and remarkable which the young men and young women in their eighteen now have not seen in the state.

He is about to stand out different, iconic and high from those who had opportunity to govern the state and we in Paradigm News think he should continue in t hat direction.

Governor Kefas Agbu made a history and Paradigm News think he was intentional on this, when he moved to the heart of the Federal Capital Territory Abuja not to clinch a ticket like was done in political transition of the state in 2007 and 2015 where tickets were collected at Abuja but this time with timber and calibre of people to rethink, revisit and reflect about Taraba State and what he think as Executive Governor his government must do to better the lots of Tarabans under his watch.

To ensure maximum performance and productivity expected from the members of the State executive council and other political appointees, a three day retreat and induction training has been organized by the Taraba State Government on the 25th -27th July, 2023 at the Army Resource Centre Abuja.

Speaking at the induction and retreat training the Taraba State Executive Governor, Dr Kefas Agbu charged the members state Executive council and other political appointees to take their duties with utmost responsibility and integrity.

The Executive Governor noted that the three day retreat and induction training was organized to equip them with governance skills on the discharge of their functions.

The retreat which was for all the political appointees and political office holders including members of the Taraba State House of Assembly was solely to bring such political appointees on speed with the policies of the new government in the state.

In the words of the Executive Governor Dr Kefas Agbu the retreat was designed to provide them with ‘‘necessary knowledge, insight and tools to excel’’ in their respective roles and to enable them work harmoniously towards shared vision of a prosperous and inclusive Taraba state.

To understand his decisiveness the Executive Governor said ‘‘in the pursuit of our common goals, I urge you all to uphold the value of transparency, accountability and governance’’, adding that ‘‘the trust of the people can only be sustained through our unwavering commitment for serving their interest and meeting their needs’’. This are words on marble and we look forward to this from our public servants.

Governor Dr Kefas Agbu said that Taraba State is blessed with abundant human and natural resources, but with numerous challenges, and therefore charged the appointees that ‘‘as leaders and public servants , it is our duty to work tirelessly to address these challenges and create an enabling environment that empowers every citizen to thrive and reach their potential’’

In his opening remarks at the retreat and induction training, the Secretary to the Taraba State Government (SSG) Chief Barrister Gibbon Timothy Kataps reiterated the quality of the retreat which he said is a reflection of the quality of leaders that Taraba state has.

He said that the objectives of the retreat is to equip newly appointed cabinet members as well as other participants with basic skills and knowledge they need to lead and engender public service delivery in Taraba state within the framework of government priority and agenda, to enable cabinet members and other key government actors to synergize and build team spirit in the joint task of delivering government agenda for the accelerated development of the state.

The retreat offered both the participants and the resource persons the opportunity to interact and share experiences, and knowledge aligned with the vision and aspiration of the Executive Governor Kefas Agbu dream for the people of Taraba State

The retreat was put together by Euclase Resources Ltd and had in attendance members of the State Executive Council, members of the Taraba State House Assembly, world class facilitators and resource persons who took turns to bring governance ideas and inspiring lectures to impart knowledge         on the participants.

The retreat and induction training adopted far –reaching recommendations and communique at the end of the three days that would be enduring and resourceful in the governance of Taraba State under the watch and leadership of Executive Governor Dr Kerfas Agbu. Tarabans would be looking forward to seeing the lessons learnt from the historic take-off governance package from both the executive, legislative and judicial arms of government including the media, the fourth estate of the realm to supporting government objectives.
