Golden Jubilee Launch, WADEMOS Hails ECOWAS on Mali, Burkina Faso, and Niger Invitation. By Raymond Enoch
The West Africa Democracy Solidarity Network (WADEMOS) has hailed the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) for its historic decision to invite the governments of Mali, Burkina Faso, and Niger to participate in the official launch of ECOWAS’ 50th-anniversary celebrations in Accra.
According to press statement issues today, WADEMOS said this action marks a significant step toward fostering diplomacy and easing tensions within the region.
Also in it’s statement WADEMOS expressed its full support for ECOWAS’ initiative to open the doors of collaboration and friendship to the three Sahelian countries, emphasizing the importance of strengthening the longstanding socio-cultural ties and shared history that bind the peoples of West Africa.
“By extending this invitation, ECOWAS is taking a bold and diplomatic step to bridge divides and create an environment of cooperation, especially at a time when regional security and trade are of critical importance,” the statement said.
Accordingly the statement added that”We call on Mali, Burkina Faso, and Niger to reciprocate this gesture, embracing the opportunity for reconciliation and unity in the face of common challenges.”
WADEMOS highlighted that restoring trust and confidence between these countries and ECOWAS remains essential for the ongoing promotion of free movement, trade, and collective action against threats like terrorism that loom large over the subregion. The Network further urged the three countries to engage in constructive dialogue with ECOWAS to rebuild confidence and strengthen collaborative efforts.
With tensions between the Sahelian nations and ECOWAS in recent years, this momentous invitation represents an opportunity to forge a new chapter of peaceful engagement, which WADEMOS believes is pivotal for both regional stability and progress.
As the ECOWAS golden jubilee continues, all eyes will be on the response of Mali, Burkina Faso, and Niger, whose participation could pave the way for a renewed spirit of solidarity in West Africa.
