FRSC Rolls Out Nationwide Eid Patrol to Safeguard Travellers By Raymond Enoch

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has commenced a nationwide deployment of personnel and logistics for its 2026 Eid-el-Fitri special patrol operations, in a strategic move to ensure safer highways and seamless travel during the festive period.

The initiative, approved by the Corps Marshal, Shehu Mohammed, will run from March 17 to March 22, 2026, targeting a reduction in road crashes, fatalities, and traffic congestion across major corridors in the country.

According to the Corps, the operation aligns with its statutory mandate of promoting road safety and regulating traffic nationwide. It will feature increased patrol visibility, rapid-response rescue teams, and intensified public enlightenment campaigns aimed at guiding motorists during the Sallah celebrations.

Recognising the surge in vehicular movement that typically accompanies Eid celebrations, the FRSC has mobilised operational assets to manage traffic flow and prevent avoidable accidents. The Corps will maintain 24-hour patrols on critical highways, supported by ambulances, tow trucks, patrol vehicles, and motorcycles for swift emergency response.

In addition to rescue readiness, the operation will ensure immediate clearance of road obstructions and continuous monitoring of traffic conditions to minimise delays for commuters.

The special patrol will also enforce compliance with traffic regulations. Offences such as speeding, dangerous overtaking, tyre violations, overloading, lane indiscipline, and the use of mechanically unfit vehicles will be closely monitored and sanctioned.

Sector commands nationwide have been directed to fully deploy operational tools including radar guns, breathalysers, and communication gadgets, while Special Marshals will complement traffic control efforts.

Inter-Agency Collaboration
To strengthen efficiency, the FRSC is working in collaboration with key agencies such as the Nigeria Police, Department of State Services, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Federal Fire Service, and the Federal Roads Maintenance Agency to ensure coordinated emergency response and security on highways.

Motorists will also benefit from real-time traffic updates and travel advisories via the Corps’ National Traffic Radio platform.

While wishing Muslim faithful a peaceful Eid-el-Fitri celebration, the Corps Marshal urged road users to obey traffic rules, avoid speeding, and ensure their vehicles are roadworthy.

The nationwide deployment underscores the FRSC’s proactive approach to road safety management, particularly during peak travel periods, reinforcing its commitment to protecting lives on Nigerian roads.
