FRSC Mourns Kano Crash Victims, Urges United Action Against Road Carnage.

The Corps Marshal of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Shehu Mohammed, has expressed deep sorrow over the tragic lone crash that claimed 21 lives along the Kaduna-Kano expressway on May 31, 2025, calling for a collective national effort to curb the growing menace of road crashes in Nigeria.
The fatal incident occurred at exactly 12:30 p.m. at Gadar Yankifi, involving a Kano State Government-owned Coaster bus with registration number KN 041 A17. The bus was carrying 24 passengers—23 male adults and one female adult—when it veered off the road, reportedly due to driver fatigue and excessive speed during a long night journey.
According to FRSC, 21 of the occupants—all male—were confirmed dead at the scene, while three survivors (including the lone female passenger) were rescued and taken to a nearby hospital with varying degrees of injury.
Describing the incident as a devastating loss, Corps Marshal Mohammed extended his heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families and the Kano State Government, particularly Governor Abbah Kabir Yusuf. He urged fleet operators to reinforce safe driving practices among their drivers, stressing the dangers of night travel, fatigue, and speeding.
“This tragedy serves as a painful reminder that road safety must be everyone’s responsibility,” Mohammed stated. “We urge all Nigerians to stay vigilant, obey traffic rules, and prioritize the condition of both drivers and vehicles before embarking on any trip.”
He reaffirmed FRSC’s commitment to reducing road traffic crashes through sustained public education, enforcement, and stakeholder collaboration.
The Corps Marshal concluded with a call for urgent, united action among government bodies, transport unions, and the general public to stem the tide of road fatalities in the country.
