Energy: TCN Begins Urgent Rehabilitation of Ikot Abasi–Eket 132kV Transmission Line By Raymond Enoch
The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has commenced urgent rehabilitation works on the vandalised Towers J4 and N9 to N12 along the Ikot Abasi–Eket 132kV double-circuit transmission line in Akwa Ibom State.
The rehabilitation followed recent acts of vandalism that damaged critical components of the transmission infrastructure, necessitating immediate intervention to restore the integrity of the line.
During an inspection of the rehabilitation site on Friday, September 25, 2026, the Regional Manager, Port Harcourt Transmission Region, Engr. Nasir Bello, represented by the Assistant General Manager (AGM), Transmission, Dr. Ubani Raymond, said the inspection was conducted to ensure strict compliance with approved engineering specifications and facilitate prompt adjustments where necessary.
Dr. Raymond disclosed that significant progress had been recorded, noting that the vandalised towers had been completely dismantled while their foundations had been solidly recast in preparation for reconstruction.
He urged residents of Ikot Abasi to remain vigilant and take ownership of critical power infrastructure within their communities, stressing the need for collective efforts to protect transmission facilities from vandals and other criminal elements.
Also speaking during the inspection, the Head of Lines, Port Harcourt Transmission Region, Engr. Azuh Lucky, emphasised the importance of continuous monitoring of the rehabilitation works to ensure strict adherence to engineering standards and guarantee the quality and durability of the completed structures.
Azuh commended the TCN management for engaging two contractors to accelerate the rehabilitation process, noting that the strategy was helping to fast-track the restoration of the affected transmission infrastructure.
He, however, explained that the difficult terrain around the project sites, coupled with persistent rainfall, had slowed down the pace of construction activities.
Similarly, the Principal Manager, Uyo Work Centre, Engr. Eguaikhide Clement, expressed satisfaction with the progress recorded so far, commending the contractors for their commitment and understanding of the urgency attached to the rehabilitation of the vandalised transmission line.
The Ikot Abasi–Eket 132kV double-circuit line remains an important component of the transmission network serving communities in the region, making the speedy completion of the rehabilitation works critical to the reliability and stability of electricity supply.
