ECOWAS Strategize, Meet to Validate and Review Mid-Term Regional Community Strategic Framework.

By Raymond Enoch

The Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) has commenced a two-day technical meeting in Abuja, Nigeria, to validate the External Mid-Term Review (MTR) Report of its Community Strategic Framework (CSF), a key roadmap guiding regional integration and development efforts.

The session, holding from 18th to 19th November 2025, is being convened by the Directorate of Strategic Planning, Monitoring and Evaluation of the ECOWAS Commission and brings together Directorates of ECOWAS institutions, departments and agencies.

According to the organisers, the “Validation of External Mid-Term Review Report of the CSF” meeting is designed to critically review the technical contents of the External MTR Report, ensure its coherence and internal consistency, and fine-tune its structure and presentation.

Participants will examine how far the CSF has been implemented to date, identify gaps and lessons learned, and agree on corrective measures to strengthen delivery on regional priorities such as peace and security, economic integration, governance, human development and institutional effectiveness.

The ultimate objective of the Abuja meeting is to validate the External Mid-Term Review Report of the CSF for submission to ECOWAS Management for adoption, paving the way for evidence-based adjustments in the remaining period of implementation.

By subjecting the External MTR Report to a broad internal validation process, ECOWAS seeks to reinforce accountability, enhance coordination across its organs and ensure that the Community Strategic Framework remains a credible instrument for driving regional transformation in West Africa.
