ECOWAS Launches Youth Awareness Campaign in The Gambia, Unveils Student Club to Drive Regional Integration By Raymond Enoch
More than 250 students of Gambia Senior Secondary School have participated in the launch of the ECOWAS Field Awareness Campaign, a new initiative aimed at helping young people better understand regional integration and their role in shaping the future of West Africa.
The campaign, launched on June 15, 2026, focused on key ECOWAS values, including free movement, peace, security, regional cooperation, and the opportunities available to young citizens across the ECOWAS region.
During the interactive session, students took part in discussions and presentations that explained how regional integration can improve education, employment, entrepreneurship, and cross-border cooperation. They were also encouraged to become active contributors to peace and development in their communities.
A major highlight of the event was the launch of the ECOWAS Club Gambia, a student-led platform created to promote civic leadership, cultural exchange, active citizenship, and peaceful dialogue among young people in schools.
Organisers said the club will serve as a space where students can learn more about ECOWAS, develop leadership skills, and champion the ideals of unity, peace, and regional cooperation.
The awareness campaign forms part of wider efforts to bring ECOWAS closer to citizens, particularly young people, by increasing knowledge of the organisation’s programmes and encouraging greater participation in the regional integration process.
With the successful launch in The Gambia, the initiative is expected to inspire more students across the region to embrace the vision of a peaceful, united, and prosperous West Africa.
