Democracy Day 2025, FRSC Boss Shehu Mohammed Calls for Safety, Cautions Against Recklessness.

As Nigerians across the country commemorate 26 years of uninterrupted democratic governance, the Corps Marshal of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Shehu Mohammed, has called on citizens to prioritize safety and moderation, particularly while using the roads during the Democracy Day holiday.
In a press statement released through the Corps Public Education Officer, Assistant Corps Marshal Olusegun Ogungbemide, the Corps Marshal emphasized that public holidays typically witness a spike in vehicular movement, often leading to avoidable road crashes if safety protocols are ignored.
“We are aware that the Federal Government has declared Thursday, June 12, 2025 as work-free to enable Nigerians observe Democracy Day in peace, reflection, and celebration,” Mohammed stated. “That jubilant atmosphere must not be allowed to be undermined by those who drive recklessly and endanger lives.”
He noted that historical data from the FRSC indicates a trend of increased road usage during such holidays, with a tendency for some road users to flout traffic rules, thereby endangering public safety. Mohammed urged Nigerians to avoid such “flagrant display of uncaring attitudes” and instead show consideration for fellow road users.
“As you observe the day, we enjoin everyone to show sincere commitment to safety regulations by driving with care, obeying traffic rules, and especially avoiding driving against traffic or operating under the influence of alcohol and drugs,” he said.
The Corps Marshal extended his congratulations to Nigerians on the 26th anniversary of democracy in the country and reaffirmed the FRSC’s commitment to ensuring safe road environments during and beyond the celebrations.
“Only the living can celebrate,” Mohammed remarked, underscoring the importance of vigilance and responsibility on the road during the festivities.
