ALGON SETS STAGE FOR REVAMPED LOCAL GOVERNMENT HEALTH CARE SYSTEM ACROSS NIGERIA.

The Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON) Stakeholders Technical Workshop on Primary Healthcare Revitalization and Operationalization has ended with a resounding call to action for a revamped local government-led healthcare system in Nigeria.

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, represented by Dr. Salma Ibrahim Anas, Special Adviser to the President on Health, reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to ensuring Universal Health Coverage with Primary Healthcare at its cornerstone.

ALGON National President, Honorable Mu’azu Maifata, welcomed stakeholders and emphasized ALGON’s commitment to leveraging the Supreme Court’s ruling on Local Government Council autonomy to revitalize Primary Healthcare in Nigeria.

The workshop featured technical presentations and panel discussions on the Health Sector Renewal Investment Initiative and ALGON’s Policy and Roadmap for Primary Healthcare in Nigeria.

Stakeholders in a communiqué adopted at the end of the workshop ,made several declarations and commitments, including:

– Appreciation for President Tinubu’s dedication to repositioning Local Government Councils

– Acknowledgement of the Supreme Court’s ruling on Local Government Council autonomy

– Commitment to a whole-of-government and whole-of-society approach to PHC development

– Emphasis on synergy and collaborative leadership among stakeholders

– Recognition of the need for strategic engagement with the Private Sector

– Called for immediate integration of LGAs in the Nigeria Health Sector Renewal Investment Initiatives 

The ALGON Stakeholders Technical Workshop Communiqué as adopted has set the stage for a revamped local government-led healthcare system in Nigeria.
