Africa CDC Launches North Africa Health Partners Coalition to Strengthen Regional Health Security.

By Raymond Enoch

In a decisive step towards enhanced regional health coordination, Africa CDC convened the Northern Africa Annual Health Partners Forum, gathering leading regional and global institutions to set shared health priorities for 2026.

A highlight of the forum was the official launch of the North Africa Health Partners Coalition, designed to streamline collaboration, drive strategic interventions, and strengthen health system resilience across the sub-region. The coalition will be chaired by IOM – UN Migration, with the Eastern Mediterranean Public Health Network and the World Bank as co-chairs, while Africa CDC will serve as the Secretariat.

Welcoming the new leadership structure, Africa CDC’s Northern Regional Director, Dr. Wessam Mankoula, emphasized that IOM’s chairmanship “will further champion cross-partner collaboration to advance health security and system resilience across Northern Africa.”

The forum underscored Africa CDC’s commitment to fostering partnerships that address critical public health challenges, enhance disease preparedness, and ensure sustainable health outcomes for the region in 2026 and beyond.
