Nigeria’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Yusuf Maitama Tuggar, has reaffirmed the country’s commitment to inclusive economic development and international cooperation at the Fourth International Conference on Financing for Development (FFD4), held in Seville, Spain.
According to a press statement, signed by Alkasim Abdulkadir, Special Assistant on Media and Communications Strategy to the Hon. Minister, detailed Tuggar’s delivery of Nigeria’s national statement on behalf of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, in which he outlined the country’s strategic focus on financial inclusion and support for micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs), particularly those led by women and youth.
Minister Tuggar emphasized Nigeria’s efforts to expand the capacity of development finance institutions like the Bank of Industry and Bank of Agriculture to drive grassroots economic empowerment and sustainable growth.

On the sidelines of the conference, the Minister delivered the keynote address at the launch of the Green Guarantee Group (GGG), underscoring Nigeria’s growing commitment to green financing and the attainment of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
In a series of high-level bilateral meetings, Tuggar strengthened Nigeria’s international partnerships:
With the United Nations Capital Development Fund (UNCDF): Discussions focused on boosting job creation and SME development in Nigeria. Both parties agreed in principle to sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to facilitate access to interest-free loans and broader financial support for small businesses.
With Sweden’s Vice Minister for Foreign Affairs: The Minister sought Swedish technical expertise in the rollout of Nigeria’s newly signed tax reform policy. He also requested Sweden’s support for Nigeria’s bid for a non-permanent seat on the United Nations Security Council for the 2030–2031 term.

“These engagements are not just diplomatic gestures but concrete steps towards inclusive development, job creation, and sustainable economic transformation,” Tuggar said.
Nigeria’s participation at FFD4 reflects its active role in global development discourse and its strategic drive to build resilient economies through innovation, green finance, and global partnerships.
