In a significant stride toward enhancing regional stability, the European Union and the Federal Government of Germany, through GIZ, officially handed over a consignment of computer equipment to the Early Warning Directorate of the ECOWAS Commission on Tuesday in Abuja.

Her Excellency Damtien L. Tchintchibidja, Vice-President of the ECOWAS Commission, received the equipment during a brief but symbolic ceremony. The donation forms part of the European Union’s broader support under the Peace, Security, and Governance (EPSG) project aimed at reinforcing ECOWAS’s capacity for conflict prevention and response.
The handover was led by Massimo De Luca, Head of the EU Delegation to Nigeria and ECOWAS, alongside Mrs Lea Smidt, representing the Embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany. Mrs Onyinye Onwuka, Acting Director of the ECOWAS Early Warning Directorate, was also present.

Vice-President Tchintchibidja hailed the donation as a critical boost for ECOWAS’s early warning capabilities, emphasizing the importance of partnerships in safeguarding peace and security across West Africa.
“This gesture by our partners, particularly through GIZ, strengthens our tools for timely conflict detection and coordinated response. A stable region is a shared responsibility,” she remarked.
