Lagos Hosts ECOWAS Experts to Drive Infrastructure and Integration Agenda By Raymond Enoch
A high-level gathering of experts from the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) had opened at Lagos, Nigeria, marking a pivotal step toward another milestone in regional transformation.
The agenda: validating two strategic frameworks poised to drive West Africa’s infrastructural and institutional advancement—the Strategic Business Plan (SBP) and the Communication Strategy of the ECOWAS Project Preparation and Development Unit (PPDU).
The three-day technical meeting brings together policymakers, infrastructure specialists, and communications experts with a shared mission: to accelerate infrastructure development and interconnectivity across ECOWAS Member States, while amplifying the PPDU’s visibility and impact across the region.
The draft Strategic Business Plan is aligned with ECOWAS Vision 2050, which envisions “a fully integrated community of peoples living in a peaceful and prosperous region, with strong institutions and respect for fundamental freedoms.” The plan outlines a robust framework for development that prioritizes sustainable, inclusive growth.
Complementing this is the PPDU Communication Strategy—an essential tool designed to raise awareness, mobilize resources, and better engage political leaders, investors, and the general public on the agency’s initiatives and outcomes.
“These strategic documents are more than administrative tools—they are catalysts for progress,” said one participant. “They lay the foundation for stronger infrastructure, deeper cooperation, and a louder, more unified ECOWAS voice on the global stage.”
The meeting represents a significant milestone in ECOWAS’s continued efforts to build resilient, future-ready systems for regional integration and development.
