Lomé Hosts Crucial ECOWAS Meeting to Review 2024 Agricultural Initiatives Across West Africa By Raymond Enoch

Regional cooperation and Agriculture took center stage in Lomé, Republic of Togo as over seventy key stakeholders convened for the annual review of ECOWAS Agricultural Policy (ECOWAP) projects and programs. The high-level gathering marked a pivotal moment in the West African region’s efforts to bolster food security, agricultural development, and sustainable resource management.

Chaired by the ECOWAS Commissioner for Economic Affairs and Agriculture, Mrs. Massandjé Touré-Litsé, the three-day steering committee sessions bring together institutional leaders and financial partners from across the agroforestry and fisheries sectors. Their goal: to assess the progress of 2024 regional initiatives, address ongoing challenges, and align strategies for greater impact.

“This annual platform is vital for accountability and strategic alignment,” said Touré-Litsé. “It allows us to identify what works, what doesn’t, and how we can collectively move forward for the benefit of our people.”

The ECOWAS Commission, acting as the regional coordinating body, emphasized the importance of collaboration and innovation in overcoming obstacles such as climate change, market access limitations, and funding gaps. The outcome of the meeting is expected to inform policy adjustments and future programming to strengthen agricultural resilience and regional food systems.

As ECOWAS pushes for an inclusive and integrated agricultural transformation, the Lomé meeting stands as a testament to regional commitment and the shared vision for a food-secure West Africa.
