The National Universities Commission (NUC) has approved the establishment of the Ebonyi State University of ICT, Science, and Technology, Oferekpe, Izzi Local Government Area, Ebonyi State. This historic milestone, announced during a special event in Abuja, positions the university as the 66th state university and the 278th university in Nigeria.
The Executive Secretary of the NUC, Professor Abdullahi Ribadu, presented the official Letter of Recognition to the Ebonyi State Governor, Rt. Hon. Francis Nwifuru. Professor Ribadu commended the initiative, describing it as a significant step forward for both Ebonyi State and the nation in advancing higher education and technological innovation.
While pledging the NUC’s support for the university, Professor Ribadu highlighted that the institution must meet certain requirements before commencing academic activities. “A recognition letter does not equate to the commencement of academic activities. We will undertake what is called resource verification, where we assess the state of infrastructure, classrooms, library facilities, and staffing,” he explained.
Professor Ribadu assured that a copy of the recognition letter would be forwarded to relevant organizations, including the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund), the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), and the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND), for further action
