Ambassador Coleiro Heads Strategic Mission to Strengthen Libya Ties

Sir Anthony C. Coleiro, Ambassador of the State of the African Diaspora (SOAD), led a successful diplomatic and trade mission to Tripoli, Libya

The mission focused on strengthening bilateral relations between SOAD, Malta and Libya, exploring opportunities for collaboration in key sectors, including food industries, renewable energy, tourism, and vocational training.

The mission explored through a significant meeting between Ambassador Coleiro and Mr. Saghir Mohamed Meilef, Chairman and General Manager of the National Investment Holding Company (NIHC) centered on fostering cooperation in food industries and renewable energy, as well as exploring potential Maltese investments in Libya. The mission talks highlighted the importance of international partnerships to support Libya’s economic growth.

Also Ambassador Coleiro met with Libya’s Minister of Labour and Rehabilitation, H.E. Eng. Ali Al-Abed.

Their bilateral talks focused on strengthening cooperation in vocational training, healthcare, tourism development, and creating employment opportunities for Libyan citizens in Malta. The discussions reflected a shared commitment to mutual development and collaboration.

In a separate related mission engagement, Ambassador Coleiro had a productive discussions with Eng. Abdulelaziz Ramadan Eshawlah, Chairman of the General Board for Investment Promotion & Privatization Affairs (P.I.B.).

It would be noted that the P.I.B. plays a crucial role in attracting foreign investments to Libya, and the meeting emphasized aligning Malta’s industries with Libya’s strategic objectives. Discussions covered investment strategies, applications, and outreach programs, underscoring Libya’s dedication to building a competitive investment environment.

In a related development Ambassador Coleiro also met with H.E. Mr. Nasseredin Milad El Fazzani, Libya’s Minister of Tourism and Traditional Industries, to explore collaboration in tourism development. Minister El-Fazzani highlighted Libya’s potential as a cultural tourism hub, pointing to its unique desert landscapes, archaeological sites, and vibrant heritage. Discussions focused on opportunities for training and employment for Libyan citizens in Malta’s hospitality sector and attracting Maltese investment in Libya’s growing tourism industry

He capped his visit by meeting with His Excellency Professor Doctor Ahmed Abd Al-Salam Al-Ashhab, a distinguished Libyan diplomat, scholar, and ambassador. The visit offered a unique opportunity to reflect on the Professor’s extensive diplomatic career and his book, Memories of the Ambassador, which chronicles his journey and experiences as a global statesman.

On the whole, Ambassador Coleiro’s mission to Libya marks a significant step in enhancing the economic and cultural ties between Malta, the State of the African Diaspora, and Libya.
