Alausa’s Education Reforms Earn Global Endorsement as Former Tanzanian President Kikwete Praises Nigeria’s Leadership By Beauty Akporido Aroh
Nigeria’s Minister of Education, Dr. Maruf Olatunji Alausa, has received high-level international recognition for his ongoing reforms in the country’s education sector, with former Tanzanian President and Chairman of the Global Partnership for Education (GPE) Board, Jakaya Mrisho Kikwete, commending the Federal Government’s renewed commitment to transforming education.
The commendation came during a meeting between both leaders, where Dr. Kikwete praised the reform agenda being championed by the Nigerian Minister, describing it as a clear demonstration of the country’s determination to improve learning outcomes, strengthen education systems and expand access to quality education.
“Minister, thank you for your time. Congratulations on the efforts you are making,” Dr. Kikwete said, while expressing confidence that Nigeria is increasingly playing a strategic leadership role in shaping the global education agenda.
The endorsement comes ahead of the Global Education Summit scheduled for September, where President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is expected to co-chair the high-level gathering alongside Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni. The summit is expected to mobilise greater international investment and partnerships to accelerate access to quality education worldwide through the Global Partnership for Education.
As Chairman of the GPE Board, Dr. Kikwete acknowledged Nigeria’s growing influence within the organisation, noting that Dr. Alausa’s membership of the GPE Board reflects the country’s increasing contribution to shaping international education policies and advancing inclusive learning opportunities for children.
Responding to the commendation, Dr. Alausa thanked the former Tanzanian leader for his longstanding service to Africa and the global education community, particularly his commitment to promoting foundational education and nurturing future generations of leaders.
The Minister also praised Dr. Kikwete’s enduring legacy in leadership development across Africa, describing his continued advocacy for young people as an inspiration for sustainable development and transformative governance.
Reaffirming Nigeria’s commitment under President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, Dr. Alausa said the Federal Ministry of Education would continue to pursue bold reforms through strategic partnerships, increased investment and evidence-based policies aimed at improving learning outcomes and ensuring every Nigerian child has access to quality education.
