ROSOWA Takes Road Safety Campaign to Abuja School, Trains Pupils on Life-Saving Practices By Raymond Enoch

The Road Safety Officers Wives Association (ROSOWA) has intensified efforts to promote road safety awareness among young Nigerians with a sensitisation programme for pupils of Fouad Lababidi Islamic Academy, Wuse Zone 3, Abuja.

The initiative, led by the President of ROSOWA, Dr. Nafisat Shehu Mohammed, focused on equipping children with essential road safety knowledge aimed at reducing accidents and fostering responsible behaviour on the nation’s roads.

Addressing the pupils during the interactive session, Dr. Mohammed emphasized the importance of early safety education, noting that children are among the most vulnerable road users and must be adequately informed about safe practices. She said the programme was designed to instill a culture of safety from a young age and empower pupils to make informed decisions whenever they use the road.

The sensitisation covered critical safety measures, including the proper use of child restraints in vehicles, safe road-crossing techniques, obedience to traffic signs, and the dangers associated with reckless road behaviour. The pupils were also taught how to identify potential road hazards and the importance of remaining alert while walking or commuting.

According to ROSOWA, road safety education remains a vital component of efforts to reduce road crashes and fatalities across the country. The association believes that educating children at the grassroots level will contribute significantly to building a safer road culture and creating a generation of responsible road users.

The session featured practical demonstrations and interactive discussions that allowed the pupils to engage directly with road safety officers and ask questions on issues affecting their daily movement to and from school.

Teachers and school administrators commended the initiative, describing it as timely and impactful. They noted that the knowledge gained by the pupils would not only enhance their personal safety but also enable them to serve as ambassadors of road safety within their homes and communities.

The programme forms part of ROSOWA’s broader advocacy campaign aimed at supporting national road safety objectives through education, awareness creation, and community engagement. By taking its message directly to schools, the association continues to reinforce the importance of prevention, responsibility, and adherence to safety rules among young Nigerians.

As the campaign concluded, pupils were encouraged to put the lessons learned into practice and share the knowledge with friends and family members, further expanding the reach of the road safety message.

For ROSOWA, the goal remains clear: building a culture of safety from the classroom and nurturing a future generation that values and prioritises responsible road use.
