NDC Awka South 1 Flagbearer Expresses Gratitude, Seeks Unity to Deliver Effective Representation By Raymond Enoch
The flagbearer of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) for Awka South 1 State Constituency, Oguguo Obinna Henry (Ọkpataozuora), has expressed heartfelt appreciation to party members and constituents following his emergence as the party’s candidate, while calling for unity as the next step towards securing victory in the forthcoming general election.
In a statement issued on Monday, Oguguo described his emergence at the party’s primary election as a collective achievement, crediting party leaders, ward executives, youths, women, supporters and stakeholders for the confidence reposed in him.
Rather than celebrating personal success, the NDC standard-bearer said the outcome of the primary reflected the collective aspirations of members determined to strengthen the party’s presence in Awka South 1.
He commended the conduct of the primary election, noting that it was peaceful, transparent and consistent with the democratic principles upon which the party is founded. According to him, the maturity and discipline displayed throughout the exercise demonstrated that the NDC remains committed to internal democracy and the rule of law.
With the primaries concluded, Oguguo urged party members to put every difference behind them and unite in pursuit of a common objective.
He extended an olive branch to his fellow aspirants and their supporters, stressing that political contests should not create lasting divisions but should instead strengthen the party through reconciliation and teamwork.
“The primaries are over and now is the time to come together as one family,” he said, adding that the party’s chances of success would be greatly enhanced by unity, cooperation and a shared commitment to serving the people.
The Awka South 1 candidate also expressed gratitude to the youths, women, elders and party leaders whose encouragement and support, he said, inspired his journey to the party’s ticket.
Looking beyond the election, Oguguo pledged to provide accessible, accountable and responsive representation if elected, promising regular engagement with constituents to ensure that their concerns are reflected in legislative decisions.
He said his ambition is driven by a genuine desire to offer effective representation and provide a new voice for the people of Awka South 1 State Constituency, anchored on transparency, inclusiveness and service.
As political activities gather momentum ahead of the general election, the NDC flagbearer appealed to party faithful to continue promoting peace, unity and cooperation, expressing confidence that a united front would position the party for victory.
Oguguo concluded by praying for continued peace, progress and prosperity for Awka South 1 State Constituency, the Nigeria Democratic Congress, its members and Nigeria, while reaffirming his commitment to serving the people with dedication and integrity if given the mandate.
