SGF Unveils Electric Motorbikes for FRSC, Boosting Traffic Control and National Security By Raymond Enoch
In a bit to redefine road safety and security operations in Nigeria, the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Senator George Akume, today commissioned a cutting-edge fleet of electric motorcycles for the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), describing the initiative as a “game-changer” in proactive traffic management and national security support.
The launch, held at the FRSC Corps Headquarters in Abuja, underscores President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s unwavering commitment to modernising road safety enforcement while strengthening Nigeria’s national security apparatus.
Speaking at the event, the FRSC Corps Marshal, Shehu Mohammed, mni, hailed the intervention as timely and strategic, emphasizing that the electric motorbikes will transform the Corps’ operational capabilities. “These bikes will be deployed along critical corridors nationwide to enhance traffic control, rapid response, strategic patrols, escort duties, and special assignments—especially in areas where conventional patrol vehicles face challenges,” he said.
The Corps Marshal noted that beyond traffic management, the electric motorbikes will amplify the FRSC’s intelligence and emergency support role, providing early warning, crime detection, and seamless collaboration with sister security agencies. “As criminal activities increasingly occur along road corridors, these bikes enhance our ability to protect lives and property while maintaining order during peak travel periods,” he added.
Highlighting the environmental and technological benefits, the Corps Marshal pointed out that the initiative aligns with global best practices in sustainable and innovative mobility, reinforcing the FRSC’s commitment to efficiency and eco-friendly operations.
SGF Akume described the commissioning as a forward-looking step in modern law enforcement, promising faster, more responsive, and smarter deployment of traffic and security resources nationwide.
The electric motorbikes are set to be immediately operational, patrolling highways and urban corridors to improve traffic flow, reduce accidents, and support inter-agency security operations—marking a new era for Nigeria’s traffic and security management.
