The 38th session of the ECOWAS Administration and Finance Committee (AFC) opened today at the ECOWAS Commission Headquarters in Abuja, bringing together senior officials, Heads of ECOWAS institutions and specialized agencies to review critical administrative and financial issues affecting the regional body.

The week-long meeting, holding from 2nd to 9th December 2025, is expected to set the tone for major institutional reforms, strengthen accountability mechanisms, and shape budgetary priorities for the 2026 financial year across ECOWAS organs.
In her opening remarks, the Vice President of the ECOWAS Commission, H.E. Madame Damtien L. Tchintchibidja, underscored ongoing efforts aimed at standardizing internal financial procedures to ensure clarity and uniformity across all ECOWAS entities. She highlighted the progress made in harmonizing budget formats, reiterating that budget transparency remains a central pillar of the Commission’s administrative reforms.
Madame Tchintchibidja also referenced the series of activities held throughout 2025 in commemoration of ECOWAS’s Silver Jubilee, noting that these celebrations would formally conclude in early 2026 with renewed commitments to organizational efficiency and regional integration.

Assuring delegates of renewed leadership direction, the newly appointed Chair of the AFC and Head of the ECOWAS National Office in Sierra Leone, Mr. Komba Momoh, pledged that the Committee would pursue deeper transparency, stronger accountability frameworks, and improved performance across ECOWAS operations.
“Our collective responsibility is to protect the financial credibility of ECOWAS,” Mr. Momoh said. “By strengthening governance systems, improving budget discipline, and ensuring efficient resource allocation, we will drive the West African integration agenda forward.”
Over the coming days, committee members will consider internal audit reports, human resource matters, financial statements, funding strategies, and institutional budget submissions from ECOWAS agencies and partner organizations.
