The Director General/Chief Executive Officer of the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC), Engr. (Dr) Abisoye Coker-Odusote, has been honoured with the Award of Excellence in Capacity Building and Staff Welfare by the Association of Senior Civil Servants of Nigeria (ASCSN), in recognition of her sweeping reforms that have repositioned staff development and welfare at the heart of NIMC’s operations.

Conferred by the National Executive Council (NEC) of ASCSN, the award celebrates what the union describes as Coker-Odusote’s “rare sincerity and sensitivity to the yearnings of workers,” and her “policies and actions that have enhanced productivity, improved working conditions and strengthened social dialogue” within the Commission.

The honour comes on the heels of another national recognition recently bestowed on her by the Association of Corporate Online Editors (ACOE), which presented her with an Innovation in Service Delivery Award for notable innovations and excellent service under her leadership at NIMC.

Since assuming office, Engr. Coker-Odusote has rolled out a bold and inclusive 5-Point Agenda, with staff welfare and capacity building as central pillars. Under her watch, more than 3,000 staff members have been promoted, while a 25–30% salary increment approved by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, has been implemented across the Commission.

In addition, NIMC has introduced comprehensive and all-inclusive training programmes for staff at all levels, alongside executive retreats and management workshops aimed at strengthening leadership, teamwork and professional excellence. These initiatives have not only enhanced technical capacity, but also boosted morale and institutional cohesion.

Aligned with President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, the DG has also embarked on the deployment of over 2,500 computer systems nationwide to drive National Identification Number (NIN) enrolment and improve service delivery. Strategic departments have been equipped with modern computers and workstations to bring NIMC’s operations closer to global best practices.

To further cushion economic pressures on personnel, Coker-Odusote has introduced free staff bus services, initiated a new staff car park project, and facilitated staff access to national food palliatives. These measures, staff say, have translated into tangible improvements in daily work life and productivity.

Her open-door policy and proactive engagement with labour unions have also been widely commended. By fostering a culture of mutual respect, dialogue and collaboration, the DG/CEO has set what many observers regard as a new benchmark for leadership in Nigeria’s public sector.

For ASCSN, the award is both a recognition of past strides and an encouragement to sustain the momentum of reform. For NIMC staff, it is seen as validation that their welfare, professional growth and working conditions are finally at the centre of institutional decision-making.

The latest recognition, stakeholders note, not only crowns a period of intense transformation at NIMC but also underscores a renewed commitment to excellence in public service delivery under Engr. (Dr) Abisoye Coker-Odusote’s stewardship.
