WB,ECOWAS DEEPEN TIES TO BOOST ELECTRICITY ACCESS IN W/AFRICA-High Level Team Discusses Energy Storage, Grid Stability, and Renewable Integration at Commission HQ.

In a significant move to accelerate energy development across West Africa, a high-level delegation from the World Bank, led by Senior Energy Specialist Ms. Elise Akitani, paid a courtesy visit to the Vice President of the ECOWAS Commission, H.E. Mrs. Damtien L. Tchintchibidja, at the Commission’s Headquarters in Abuja on Monday.

The visit was part of the ongoing Mid-Year Review Mission of the Electricity Access and Battery Energy Storage Technology (BEST) Project, a major regional initiative aimed at expanding electricity access, enhancing renewable energy integration, and stabilizing national power grids.

H.E. Tchintchibidja reaffirmed ECOWAS’ unwavering commitment to energy equity and regional cooperation, stating:

“Bringing electricity to more households and businesses, improving reliability, and harnessing the region’s substantial renewable energy resources will help accelerate West Africa’s economic integration and social transformation.”

The World Bank delegation sought continued ECOWAS support for effective project implementation, reinforcing the growing synergy between both institutions in tackling the region’s energy challenges.

The BEST Project represents a milestone in West Africa’s transition towards sustainable and inclusive energy solutions.
