In a momentous ceremony that signaled a new dawn for women’s rights in Nigeria, ActionAid Nigeria officially launched the Renewed Women’s Voice and Leadership (RWVL) Initiative at the Intercontinental Hotel in Abuja. Themed “Consolidating Gains and Strategic Partnerships for Sustained Impact,” the event brought together a powerful coalition of stakeholders, activists, and civil society leaders committed to advancing gender equality across the nation.
Backed by a 15 million Canadian dollar grant, the RWVL initiative will run for five years, supporting 188 women’s rights organizations across Nigeria through 350 transformative grants. This initiative is strategically designed to amplify women’s voices, strengthen their leadership capacities, and build momentum for inclusive governance—particularly in marginalized communities.
Leading the delegation from the League of Women Voters of Nigeria (NILOWV) was its President, Hon. Irene Awunah-Ikyegh, who passionately addressed the audience about the significance of the initiative.
“When you empower a woman, you empower a nation,” she declared. “The RWVL initiative is the heartbeat of a new Nigeria. Women have always been at the heart of community development, and this initiative is the fuel we need to drive systemic change.”
Her remarks captured the collective spirit of the event—one rooted in hope, solidarity, and action.
The launch also featured the unveiling of the campaign hashtag, #AllNigerianWomenMatter, a bold and inclusive slogan symbolizing the project’s unwavering commitment to ensuring that every Nigerian woman’s voice is not just heard but elevated. The hashtag is expected to anchor nationwide advocacy and digital mobilization efforts.
ActionAid Nigeria’s Country Director emphasized the importance of strategic partnerships in achieving sustained impact. “RWVL isn’t just a project—it’s a movement,” she stated, calling on government, civil society, and the private sector to collaborate in building a gender-just Nigeria.
As the event concluded, stakeholders reaffirmed their dedication to transforming the landscape for Nigerian women. With strong leadership, robust funding, and a clear vision, the RWVL initiative promises to redefine what’s possible for women’s empowerment in Nigeria.
