U.S. Strengthens Hollywood-Nollywood Partnership to Enhance Creative Economy.

The United States government has reaffirmed its commitment to deepening cultural and economic partnerships between Hollywood and Nollywood, citing the relationship as a catalyst for global innovation, talent development, and two-way trade in the film and creative industries.
Speaking at the Nollywood Producers Summit 2025, held in Lagos, Julie McKay, the U.S. Consulate’s Public Affairs Officer, emphasized the transformative power of international collaboration in filmmaking. She praised ongoing partnerships between American and Nigerian filmmakers, noting their impact on film distribution networks, production quality, and the nurturing of emerging creative talent.
“These collaborations not only elevate storytelling standards but also serve as bridges of understanding between our cultures,” McKay stated. “The U.S. government remains committed to supporting creative entrepreneurship and expanding opportunities for mutual growth.”
McKay highlighted that the creative sector stands as a powerful contributor to economic development, especially in youth-driven markets like Nigeria. According to her, film co-productions, training initiatives, and exchange programs have already begun reshaping the narrative on African cinema globally.
The summit brought together influential producers, investors, and creative leaders from both continents to explore the future of filmmaking in a digital, interconnected world.
In addition to film partnerships, McKay encouraged Nigerian creatives to explore a wide range of U.S.-sponsored cultural, educational, and professional exchange programs, which are designed to strengthen people-to-people ties and equip participants with tools to innovate and lead.
The U.S. government’s support for Nollywood continues to grow as part of a broader strategy to invest in Africa’s creative economy and foster inclusive prosperity.
As the summit concluded, participants echoed a unified message: the future of cinema lies in collaboration—not just across borders, but across cultures.
