Threat to Chief Dan Nwanyanwu’s Life by Alleged Associate of FCT Minister Nyesom Wike

Chief Dan Nwanyanwu has reported a severe threat to his life by Mr. Moses Emmanuel, alleged to be an associate of the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Chief Nyesom Wike. The incident occurred at the Pastry Shop in Transcorp Hilton, Abuja, where Nwanyanwu was having snacks with a friend, Alhaji Aliyu.

According to Nwanyanwu, Emmanuel confronted him and introduced himself as Wike’s brother. Emmanuel then made threats referencing a recent television interview where Nwanyanwu expressed his concerns about the crises in Rivers State, attributing the unrest to Wike’s followers opposing the current governor, Chief Simi Fubara. Nwanyanwu’s critique of Wike’s interference in Rivers State governance seemingly triggered the threats.

During the altercation, Emmanuel’s threats drew the attention of the hotel’s security, who took him to the hotel basement for interrogation. Emmanuel made several calls, including one to Chief Chukwuemeka Woke, Wike’s former Chief of Staff. Woke’s response to Nwanyanwu’s accusations was unclear.

Nwanyanwu has called for a thorough investigation by the Department of State Services (DSS), urging them to review CCTV footage and telephone records. He also appealed to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the Inspector General of Police, the Director General of the DSS, and the National Security Adviser for immediate intervention.

Emphasizing the constitutional right to freedom of expression, Nwanyanwu demanded adequate security for himself and his family. He also insisted that Wike sign an undertaking to be held accountable if any harm comes to him or his family.

This incident highlights growing concerns over safety and freedom of speech in Nigeria, urging the authorities to take swift action to ensure the protection of citizens.
