Strengthening Bilateral Media Cooperation: 10 Gambian Journalists Conclude Intensive Media Training in China.
By Raymond Enoch
In a major boost to The Gambia’s media capacity and international cooperation, ten Gambian journalists have successfully completed two intensive four-weeks training in the People’s Republic of China, focused on new media operations, management, and global network media collaboration.

The programs — the Seminar for Network Media Professionals in Belt and Road Countries (October 14–27, 2025), and the Seminar for New Media Platform Operations and Management (October 17–30, 2025) — brought together media professionals from across the developing world to explore China’s digital transformation experience and its implications for global communication.
Organized respectively by the China Broadcasting International Economic and Technological Cooperation Co., Ltd. and the Research and Training Institute of the National Radio and Television Administration (RTI of NRTA), the training hosted a combined 55 participants from Belt and Road nations — with six and four journalists representing The Gambia in each seminar.
Facilitated by the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in The Gambia, the initiative aligns with Beijing’s broader effort to deepen people-to-people ties and media collaboration under the Belt and Road Initiative, while complementing the Gambia Press Union’s ongoing drive to strengthen professional standards and local media development.
Participants engaged in lectures, field visits, and discussions on digital media strategy, content innovation, and international cooperation in the new media landscape. They also explored China’s technological advancements in broadcasting, artificial intelligence, and audience engagement.
The exchange, observers note, reflects China’s growing footprint in Africa’s media landscape and underscores The Gambia’s commitment to equipping its journalists with global exposure and cutting-edge digital competencies.
The Gambian delegation expressed appreciation to the Chinese government and the Gambia Press Union for the opportunity, pledging to translate the knowledge gained into strengthening the country’s evolving media sector.
