Stolen Car Recovered in Niger as Police Launch Manhunt for Suspects

The Niger State Police Command has successfully recovered a stolen black Toyota Corolla following a high-speed pursuit that ended in a crash along Dikko Road, Suleja.

According to a police press statement released by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP W.A. Abiodun, the incident began at approximately 8:15 p.m. on May 15, when the vehicle—bearing registration number EKY 80 DZ—was reported stolen around the Midwifery School in Tunga, Minna. In response, the alert was swiftly circulated to all police divisions across the state.

Acting on the intelligence, officers from the Maje Division, conducting routine stop-and-search along Kwamba-Maje Road, sighted a matching black Toyota Corolla with a suspicious number plate—BDG 271 AT on the front and none at the rear—heading toward Dikko Road around 10:00 p.m.

Led by the Divisional Police Officer (DPO), the patrol team tailed the car, but the driver attempted to evade arrest by accelerating. The vehicle ultimately collided with a tricycle, forcing the two unidentified suspects to flee the scene on foot, abandoning the vehicle and other critical evidence.

The recovered vehicle has since been positively identified by its rightful owner, confirming it as the one stolen in Minna earlier that evening. Police investigations are currently underway, with forensic analysis of the recovered exhibits ongoing to track and apprehend the fleeing suspects.

Commissioner of Police, CP Adamu Abdullahi Elleman, mnips, commended the swift action of the Maje Division, praising their dedication and professionalism. He called on residents of Niger State to remain security-conscious and urged citizens to promptly report suspicious activity to security agencies.

“The collective effort of vigilant residents and responsive policing is crucial to keeping our communities safe,” CP Elleman stated.
