Senator Basheer Lado Pays Heartfelt Tribute to H. E Former President Buhari’s Enduring Legacy .-Mourns the Elderstatesman.

In a deeply personal and a swift moving tribute issued in Abuja 17th July 2025 , Senator Basheer Lado, Special Adviser to the President on Senate Matters, has mourned the passing of former President Muhammadu Buhari, GCFR, describing him as “an icon of integrity, discipline, and national devotion.”
The tribute is contained In a press statement signed by Senator Lado himself ,painted a vivid picture of a leader whose impact transcended public office and touched lives on a deeply personal level — including his own.
“The passing of His Excellency, Muhammadu Buhari, GCFR, is a profound national loss — and for me, an intensely personal one,” Lado stated.
He recalled how Buhari not only mentored him politically but supported his career at critical junctures. “He entrusted me with two critical national assignments,” Lado said, referencing his roles as Federal Commissioner of the National Commission for Refugees, Migrants, and Internally Displaced Persons, and later as Director-General of NAPTIP. “These opportunities were expressions of his enduring faith in my commitment to national service.”
One particularly defining moment in their relationship, Lado recounted, was Buhari’s encouragement for a housing initiative to resettle displaced persons. “He said, ‘I am proud of this initiative, and I bless it.’ That moment became a turning point,” Lado recalled, noting that the project has since flourished into resettlement cities restoring dignity to thousands.
Beyond politics, Lado revealed Buhari’s deep personal connection with his family, citing calls of condolence and moments of spiritual solidarity. “When I lost my mother, he phoned me personally — as the sitting President — to offer heartfelt condolences,” he said.
He also highlighted Buhari’s unwavering spiritual commitment, referencing his willingness to attend a Qur’anic recitation competition in honour of Hajiya Abibatu Mogaji, mother of President Bola Tinubu, despite battling health issues abroad. “Even from London, he sent his regrets and a representative — a gesture that spoke volumes.”
Calling him a man of “sacrifice, simplicity, and service,” Lado extended condolences on behalf of his family and office, praying for Buhari’s eternal rest in Aljannatul Firdaus.
