Preserving Nigeria’s Future: A Call for Unity, Justice, and Accountability.
By Raymond Enoch
As Nigeria continues to face a growing wave of insecurity and economic hardship, a powerful and urgent call for unity and justice has emerged. Most Rev. Dr. David O. C. Onuoha, the President of the Christian Council of Nigeria, has called on all Nigerians—leaders and citizens alike—to take decisive actions to preserve the nation’s unity and secure its future.

In a statement Rev. Dr. Onuoha expressed deep concern about the increasing tension in the country, noting that the current state of affairs does not bode well for anyone. “At a time of economic hardship and growing insecurity of lives and property, efforts should be channeled towards finding solutions that will make life more meaningful and bearable to the citizens,” he emphasized.
Onuoha’s message underscores the need for leaders at all levels of government to prioritize the well-being of Nigerians above all else. He warned that political actions that stir division or unrest, even when politically correct, only undermine the confidence necessary to build a strong, healthy society. “It is imperative that actions avoid promoting confusion or unease, as impunity always breeds anarchy,” he stressed.
The call for responsible leadership also extends to the judiciary, where Onuoha stressed that justice must serve to uphold order, not chaos. Drawing inspiration from God as the ultimate judge who brought order out of chaos, he urged the judiciary to make rulings that inspire accountability for all, regardless of status. “The judiciary must ensure that their judgments do not promote confusion and disorder. Nigerians look up to them for fairness and justice,” he said.

Dr. Onuoha also focused on the role of legislators in safeguarding the future of Nigeria. He reminded them that their duty is to serve the people of Nigeria, not to serve their own interests. He warned against any actions that betray the trust of the Nigerian people, stating that failing to represent the interests of their constituents is a grave disservice to future generations.
“Any action that is not in the manifest interest of their constituents is a betrayal of trust,” Onuoha declared, further emphasizing the importance of ensuring that Nigeria’s democracy remains inclusive and representative of all its citizens.
Onuoha’s call to action also included a passionate plea to address the rampant insecurity in the country, particularly the violence perpetrated by terrorists, bandits, and other criminal elements. He urged all stakeholders to unite in tackling these agents of destruction, warning that they must be stopped before they completely destabilize the nation. “These agents of destruction should be stopped before they stop Nigeria,” he declared, stressing that the only way forward is through mutual love, trust, and a shared sense of purpose among Nigerians.
His message of unity was further underscored by a call to embrace brotherhood, despite the country’s ethnic and religious divisions. Onuoha urged Nigerians to genuinely love their neighbors, promote fairness and equity in all actions and decisions, and work together to create a society where no one is oppressed.
As the nation observes the Lenten and Ramadan seasons, Onuoha encouraged Nigerians to seek the face of God in prayer and reflection, asking for genuine repentance and a collective resolve to build a nation where justice prevails for all. He quoted the biblical passage from Amos 5:24, urging everyone to allow “justice to roll down like waters, and righteousness like an ever-flowing stream.”
Rev.Dr. Onuoha’s message serves as a timely reminder of the collective responsibility each Nigerian bears to protect the future of the country. His impassioned plea for unity, justice, and accountability echoes the sentiments of millions of citizens who yearn for a better, more secure Nigeria. The path to a brighter future, he believes, lies in every individual’s commitment to putting the welfare of the nation above all else.
As Nigeria faces its challenges, it is clear that the need for unity, peace, and justice has never been more urgent. Dr. Onuoha’s call to work together to preserve Nigeria’s future resonates with hope and determination, offering a vision for a nation where every citizen can live in dignity, peace, and prosperity.
