PEACE AND RECONCILIATION: INSTITUTE HOSTS EVENT, CONFERS AWARDS IN ABUJA

The Advance Peace and Reconciliation Center of Nigeria, in collaboration with the College of Oil and Gas Exploration Technology and the Institute of Security and Forensic Studies Nigeria, held an investiture ceremony and commemoration of the International Day of Peace in Abuja, with the theme “Action for Peace: One Ambition for the Global Goals.”

Speaking at the event, Dr. Amb. Okocha M. Morgan, head of the Institute of Security and Forensic Studies, emphasized the importance of regulating the conduct of its members to align with international best practices. He outlined the benefits of joining the institute, stressing that it offers professionals the tools to better serve humanity.

Ambassador Michael Felix Adona, President of the Advance Peace and Reconciliation Center, stated, “Peace is not the absence of conflict but an opportunity for people to come together, address conflicts, and create an environment where every voice is heard without fear or oppression.” He urged awardees and participants to work towards sustained peace and harmony.

Miss Itumo Onyinyechi Priscilla, President of the College of Oil and Gas Exploration Technology, spoke about the institution’s role in promoting best practices in the oil and gas industry across Africa. She also congratulated the 2024 award recipients and pledged continued advocacy for peace, highlighting the critical need to address issues like climate change.

Amb. Dr. Ballisum Gideon Luka, who was conferred with a Doctoral Fellowship in Intelligence and Detective Forensic Science, expressed his gratitude, saying, “I will ensure that I start a program that addresses conflict through forensic studies for the youth, starting from the family level to our communities, to create a new paradigm for Nigeria.”

Another awardee, Alhaji Abdulkadir Adama, vowed to promote peace in his community, noting that this was his fourth award for his efforts towards conflict resolution. “This recognition empowers me to address conflicts head-on and strive for a better society,” he added.

The event featured the presentation of awards and certificates, with goodwill messages from prominent Nigerians calling for peace and unity across the country. Representatives from the security sector, media, and civil society were also in attendance.
