NIMC Trains NYSC Corps Members to Drive Nationwide NIN Enrolment at Ward Level.

In a strategic move to expand the reach of the National Identification Number (NIN) registration exercise, the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC), in collaboration with the Ministry of Youth Development and the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), has commenced the training of NYSC Corps members to lead grassroots NIN enrolment across all political wards in Nigeria.
According to a press release signed by Dr. Kayode Adegoke, Head of Corporate Communications at NIMC said that the initiative forms a key part of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s GCFR Renewed Hope Agenda, which aims to ensure that every Nigerian and legal resident receives a NIN in the shortest time possible.
As of now, the Commission has successfully enrolled over 120 million Nigerians and legal residents. However, a significant portion of rural and underserved communities remains unregistered. To close this gap, NIMC is deploying specially trained Corps members who are currently undergoing rigorous training in preparation for a nationwide rollout of the Ward Enrolment Initiative.
The primary objective of this initiative is to bring NIN enrolment closer to the grassroots, especially targeting children under 16 years of age and individuals in remote or previously unreachable areas. By embedding trained Corps members within communities, the government hopes to ensure better accessibility, eliminate logistical bottlenecks, and increase the national identity coverage rate.
Engr. (Dr.) Abisoye Coker-Odusote, the Director-General and CEO of NIMC, praised the unwavering support of President Tinubu in driving the Commission’s mandate and emphasized the significance of this grassroots effort. She also commended the Honourable Minister of Youth Development, Mr. Ayodele Olawande, and the NYSC Director-General, Brigadier-General Olakunle Oluseye Nafiu, for their collaborative roles in actualizing this landmark initiative.
With this effort, NIMC reiterates its commitment to inclusivity and digital identity access for all Nigerians, laying a critical foundation for improved national planning, security, and service delivery.
