Nigeria@65:Northern CAN Urges Hope, Task Leaders on Nation-Building.

As Nigeria marks its 65th Independence Anniversary, the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Northern Region, has called on citizens to remain hopeful and committed to the country’s future, despite its current challenges.
In a statement issued to journalists on Wednesday, the Northern CAN Chairman, Rev. Joseph John Hayab, congratulated Nigerians on the milestone and emphasized the need for renewed faith in the country’s potential.
“Despite our trials, Nigeria remains a blessed nation, rich in both human and natural resources capable of propelling us to greatness,” he said.
Rev. Hayab described the anniversary as a time for sober reflection and renewed national commitment. He urged citizens not to give up on Nigeria, but instead, to play active roles in building a stronger and more united nation.
“Nigeria is our country, and we must continue to believe in it. We must not surrender our hope to despair,” he stated. “Our responsibility as citizens is to contribute positively to nation-building, while our leaders must intensify efforts to provide the kind of leadership that inspires confidence and restores pride in being Nigerian.”
He called on political, religious, and community leaders to use the occasion to re-dedicate themselves to tackling the pressing issues facing the nation—particularly insecurity, poverty, and unemployment.
According to him, national unity and a sense of belonging among citizens can only be achieved when leaders act selflessly and uphold justice, equity, and fairness.
Rev. Hayab also stressed that Nigeria’s diversity should be viewed as an asset rather than a liability. He urged both leaders and citizens to rise above personal or sectional interests and work collectively for the common good.
“Nigeria has what it takes to be a beacon of hope for Africa and the world. What we need is sincerity, vision, and decisive action that puts the welfare of the people first,” he added.
CAN reaffirmed its commitment to constructive engagement with stakeholders across all sectors, aiming to promote peace, unity, and progress as pillars of the Nigerian project.
