As Ghana celebrates its 68th Independence Anniversary, Nigeria has joined the global community in extending warm congratulations to its West African neighbor.
The Honourable Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Yusuf Maitama Tuggar, sent a message of goodwill to Ghana’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration, Hon Samuel Okdzeto Ablakwa on marking the joyous occasion.
Ghana, which attained its independence from colonial rule on March 6, 1957, stands as a beacon of freedom, self-determination, and progress in Africa. This year’s celebrations not only mark the country’s rich history but also highlight its significant achievements in strengthening democracy, fostering economic growth, and contributing to regional peace and stability.
In his congratulatory message, Ambassador Tuggar emphasized that Ghana’s journey of 68 years has been a source of inspiration to Nigeria and the wider African continent. “Ghana’s enduring commitment to democracy and progress has shown the way for other nations in Africa, including Nigeria,” he remarked.
Both nations share a deep-rooted history, cultural ties, and a common vision for a united and prosperous Africa. The longstanding friendship between Nigeria and Ghana is a testament to the mutual respect and cooperation that has characterized their bilateral relationship. From trade and education to security and regional integration, the two countries have continued to work together in areas of mutual interest.
Ambassador Tuggar further reaffirmed Nigeria’s commitment to strengthening these bilateral ties, noting that both nations are united in their efforts to address regional challenges through the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) platform. Moreover, Nigeria remains steadfast in its support for Ghana’s contributions toward advancing the African Union’s Agenda 2063, which envisions a peaceful, prosperous, and integrated Africa.
The Foreign Ministry’s press release also expressed Nigeria’s best wishes for Ghana’s continued peace and prosperity. “On this auspicious occasion,” the message read, “the government and people of Nigeria wish the government and people of Ghana continued success in all their endeavors.”
As both countries move forward in their shared journey toward a brighter future, this anniversary serves as a reminder of the enduring bond that unites them, with a shared commitment to advancing the ideals of a united Africa.
The news of this important occasion was made public on March 6, 2025, the very day that Ghana commemorates its independence, with Nigeria’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs expressing deep respect and solidarity for their neighbor’s achievements.
