In a major win for international law enforcement cooperation, the Nigeria Police Force has successfully apprehended and repatriated a high-profile Chinese fugitive, Mr. Dai Qisheng, in what is being hailed as a landmark INTERPOL-led operation.

In a press release signed by the Force Public Relations Officer, DCP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the NPF disclosed that Dai, a notorious gang leader accused of leading violent organized crime activities in Guizhou Province, China, fled the country in 2024 to escape prosecution. A warrant for his arrest had been issued by the Public Security Bureau of Zhijin County. His international escape route, however, ended in Nigeria—where operatives of the INTERPOL National Central Bureau (NCB) Abuja mounted a targeted surveillance and apprehended him in the nation’s capital on August 8, 2025.

The operation, which culminated in Dai’s repatriation to Beijing on August 15, 2025, was made possible through a coordinated effort involving INTERPOL NCB Abuja, INTERPOL NCB Beijing, and the Chinese Embassy in Nigeria. This high-level diplomatic and law enforcement collaboration highlights Nigeria’s growing role in the global fight against transnational crime.
Acoording to the statement, the Nigeria Police Force said that the repatriation is a firm declaration that Nigeria will not serve as a safe haven for international fugitives.
Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olukayode Adeolu Egbetokun, Ph.D, NPM, praised the seamless cooperation between nations and agencies. “This operation demonstrates our unwavering resolve to dismantle global criminal networks,” he said. “It sends a clear message to fugitives around the world—Nigeria will not shield criminals from justice.”
Dai’s arrest is seen as a significant step forward in strengthening international crime-fighting networks and reinforces Nigeria’s commitment to the principles of justice, security, and international cooperation.
