Nigeria Hails Zambia on 61st Independence Anniversary, Reaffirms Commitment to Stronger Ties.

The Federal Republic of Nigeria has congratulated the Republic of Zambia on the occasion of its 61st Independence Anniversary, pledging continued friendship and deeper cooperation between the two African nations.
In a statement issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Yusuf Maitama Tuggar, extended Nigeria’s warm felicitations to his Zambian counterpart, Mr. Mulambo Haimbe, and to the people of Zambia as they celebrate more than six decades of nationhood.
Ambassador Tuggar described Zambia as a beacon of peace and stability in Southern Africa, commending its government and citizens for their steadfast commitment to democratic values, national unity, and socio-economic progress. He noted that Nigeria and Zambia share a long history of brotherhood rooted in their common struggles for independence and Pan-African solidarity.
“Our Zambian brothers and sisters have continued to demonstrate resilience and vision in shaping a prosperous nation,” the statement read. “Nigeria values the enduring friendship and cooperation that bind both countries and looks forward to strengthening partnerships in trade, education, governance, and regional security.”
The minister reiterated Nigeria’s readiness to work closely with Zambia in promoting peace, economic growth, and sustainable development across the African continent. He emphasized that both nations, as key members of the African Union and the Commonwealth of Nations, share a common vision of advancing African unity and prosperity.
Zambia, which gained independence from British colonial rule on October 24, 1964, marked its 61st year of sovereignty this week with national celebrations in Lusaka. Nigeria’s goodwill message highlighted the importance of solidarity among African nations as they continue to pursue collective progress and mutual respect on the global stage.
Nigeria’s congratulatory statement concluded with a renewed call for stronger bilateral ties and collaboration between the two countries, describing the occasion as an opportunity to reaffirm their shared values of peace, freedom, and development for the benefit of their peoples and the continent at large.
