Nigeria, Germany Renew Defence Partnership with an MoU.

The governments of Nigeria and Germany have officially renewed their Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), reinforcing their commitment to strengthening bilateral defence cooperation. The agreement, which has been in place for 12 years and is renewed every four years, was formalized during a signing ceremony held at Ship House, Abuja. A statement issued by Iyogun Sunday, representing the Director of Information and Public Relations of the Ministry of Defence, confirmed the event.
The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Defence, Ambassador Gabriel Tanimu Aduda, described the MoU as a strategic counterpart funding arrangement that underscores the robust defence ties between both nations. He emphasized that the renewal of the agreement aligns with Nigeria and Germany’s shared objectives, aimed at fostering long-term security collaboration and achieving developmental goals.
In his remarks, Ambassador Aduda reiterated the Nigerian government’s dedication to ensuring accountability and efficiency in implementing the agreement. He assured that adherence to strict timelines and rigorous monitoring would be prioritized to guarantee the effective execution of all aspects of the agreement. Additionally, he emphasized that all procurement processes would be thoroughly evaluated to ensure value for money.
Colonel Boris Bovekemp, the Defence Attaché of Germany to Nigeria, reaffirmed Germany’s strong commitment to deepening cooperation in defence, security, and capacity-building initiatives. He commended the enduring partnership between the two nations and underscored the importance of strengthening their cooperation to address evolving security challenges.
This renewed MoU marks a significant milestone in the Nigeria-Germany defence partnership, solidifying both countries’ joint efforts to enhance security, capacity development, and technical cooperation in the years ahead.
