Nigeria has extended warm congratulations to the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago as the Caribbean nation marks its Independence Anniversary, reaffirming the strength of diplomatic and cultural ties that bind the two nations across the Atlantic.
In a statement signed by the Spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Kimiebi Imomotimi Ebienfa, the Honourable Minister, Ambassador Yusuf Maitama Tuggar, conveyed heartfelt felicitations to His Excellency Sean Sobers, Minister of Foreign and CARICOM Affairs of Trinidad and Tobago. The statement celebrated the historic occasion as a powerful reminder of the spirit of resilience, unity, and progress that continues to define the nation’s post-independence journey.
Describing the anniversary as a moment of pride not only for the people of Trinidad and Tobago but also for their partners around the world, Ambassador Tuggar noted that the Caribbean nation’s unwavering commitment to sovereignty, democracy, and national development mirrors values that Nigeria holds dear. He emphasized that such milestones are not only significant within national borders but also inspire solidarity among nations who share a vision of a more just and equitable global order.
The message highlighted the cordial and ever-growing relationship between Nigeria and Trinidad and Tobago, one deeply rooted in shared membership of the Commonwealth and nourished through cooperation in culture, education, trade, and diplomacy. The two countries, the statement noted, have long worked together in multilateral spaces such as the United Nations and the African, Caribbean and Pacific Group of States (ACP), with a shared commitment to global peace, equitable development, and South-South collaboration.
Nigeria used the occasion to reiterate its dedication to further strengthening bilateral relations with Trinidad and Tobago. The Ministry expressed optimism that both countries will continue to explore new avenues of partnership that reflect the evolving challenges and opportunities of the 21st century—from climate action to digital innovation and cultural diplomacy.
As the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago celebrates another year of independence, Nigeria joins in commemorating not just a sovereign milestone, but a legacy of enduring friendship and common purpose. The statement concluded with best wishes to the government and people of Trinidad and Tobago for continued peace, prosperity, and national advancement.
