The Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ), FCT Chapter, has commended the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) for the successful commemoration of its 70th anniversary, hailing it as a landmark event that showcased unity, excellence, and purposeful leadership within the journalism profession.

In a heartfelt message signed by the Chairperson of NAWOJ FCT, Bassey Ita Ikpang, the chapter extended profound appreciation to the NUJ leadership for what was described as a “remarkable success” and a reflection of the resilience and progress of the union over the decades.

“Our sincere and heartfelt appreciation goes to the leadership of NUJ for the remarkable success of the 70th Anniversary celebrations,” Ikpang stated. “It was truly a celebration of vision, resilience, and journalistic excellence.”

The message singled out the NUJ National President, Comrade Alhassan Yahaya, for his visionary leadership, commending him for steering the celebrations with clarity of purpose. “Your vision and dedication were clearly evident throughout the celebrations,” Ikpang noted.

Also praised was NAWOJ’s own Deputy National President, Dr. Bimbo Oyetunde, whose contributions were described as “exceptional” and a “brilliant” show of commitment that left an “unforgettable mark” on the event.

Special recognition was reserved for the FCT NUJ Council Chairman Comrade Grace Ike, whose role as host chair was acknowledged for her pivotal coordination and outstanding leadership in delivering a seamless and memorable occasion.

Ikpang further highlighted the joy shared by the FCT Chapter over the awards and recognition bestowed upon both past and present NAWOJ national leaders—many of whom trace their roots to the FCT Chapter.

“To our National Chairperson, Comrade Aisha Ibrahim, hearty congratulations. That this recognition came during your tenure is no coincidence; it speaks volumes of your inclusive, purposeful, and people-centred leadership,” she said.

She also paid tribute to the former leaders of the FCT Chapter, expressing gratitude for their foundational work and enduring support. “Your legacies light the path for those coming behind,” she added.

In closing, NAWOJ FCT expressed appreciation to all members and delegates who journeyed to Abuja for the occasion, and gave thanks to God for the success of the celebrations.

The 70th Anniversary celebration of the NUJ stands as a powerful testament to the growth of journalism in Nigeria and the indispensable role that women journalists continue to play in shaping its future.
