Liberia, ECOWAS Push Digital Reforms and Regional Telecom Cooperation . By Raymond Enoch
The Chairman of the Liberia Telecommunications Authority, Clarence Massaquoi, has met with the President of the ECOWAS Commission, Dr Omar Alieu Touray, to advance digital reforms in Liberia and deepen regional cooperation in telecommunications.
The meeting took place in Abuja on Thursday, 29 January 2026, during Massaquoi’s official visit to Nigeria. Talks focused on modernising Liberia’s digital sector and aligning national efforts with wider West African goals.
Massaquoi briefed the ECOWAS Commission President on plans within the West African Telecommunications Regulators’ Assembly (WATRA) to harmonise telecom policies across the region by 2026. The goal is to attract more investment in digital infrastructure, lower the cost of communication services, and speed up regional digital transformation.
Both leaders also discussed the need for stronger regulatory alignment, expanded digital infrastructure, and policies that support a more integrated, inclusive, and resilient telecommunications market across West Africa.
The engagement signals renewed momentum toward a unified regional digital space that benefits governments, businesses, and everyday users alike.
