The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olukayode Adeolu Egbetokun, Ph.D., NPM, has commended officers of the Nigeria Formed Police Unit (NFPU) serving under the African Union Support and Stabilization Mission in Somalia (AUSSOM) for their exemplary dedication, professionalism, and resilience during their deployment from October 16, 2023, to June 14, 2025.

This recognition was announced in a press release issued by the Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, from the Force Headquarters in Abuja. The IGP’s commendation follows a letter of appreciation received from the AUSSOM Police Commissioner dated June 12, 2025, praising the Nigerian contingent’s outstanding contribution to international peacekeeping efforts in Somalia.

A total of fifteen officers were redeployed to take up critical administrative and command duties at the AUSSOM Police and Mission Headquarters in Mogadishu. Notable among them are CSP Shehu Gani Ahmed, SP Abraham Akhojie, SP Olivia Ugochukwu, SP Aliyu Makwa, DSP Jack Prince, DSP Odey Kingsley Lukpata, IP Nwite Sunday, and Sgt Ayeni Richard.

Though primarily trained for Formed Police Unit roles, these officers demonstrated remarkable adaptability by seamlessly transitioning into Individual Police Officer (IPO) roles with minimal or no induction. Their performance, according to AUSSOM leadership, ensured mission continuity and operational efficiency during a critical phase of security restructuring and strategic transition in Somalia.

Describing the officers as “exemplary ambassadors of the Nigeria Police Force,” IGP Egbetokun expressed immense pride in their conduct and achievements, and urged them to maintain their high standards of discipline, professionalism, and excellence in service.

He further reaffirmed the Nigeria Police Force’s unwavering commitment to global peacekeeping operations and its ongoing support for efforts aimed at fostering international peace, stability, and security.

The IGP’s message of commendation underscores Nigeria’s growing reputation in international peacekeeping and highlights the capacity of the country’s police personnel to perform effectively under demanding circumstances abroad.
