IGP Egbetokun Extends Grace Period for Tinted Glass Permit Enforcement to August 12 as Police Reacts to Public Feedback.

In a move reflecting responsiveness to citizen concerns and a broader commitment to digital reform, the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, Ph.D., NPM, has approved an extension of the grace period for the enforcement of the Tinted Glass Permit requirement to August 12, 2025.

This development was announced in an official statement issued by the Force Public Relations Officer, Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Olumuyiwa Adejobi, stating that the decision followed extensive public feedback regarding the ongoing reactivation of the digital application process for tinted glass permits — a system initially designed to streamline access, ensure security, and reinforce transparency. The IGP’s decision to extend the grace period is aimed at ensuring that no member of the public is unduly disadvantaged while these service processes are being reviewed and enhanced.

“This extension comes on the heels of several concerns and feedback expressed by members of the public,” the statement read. “In line with our commitment to transparent, inclusive, and citizen-focused policing, the Force wishes to affirm that it has not ignored the voices of Nigerians.”

The Police emphasized that these voices are not only being heard but are directly shaping the ongoing review and refinement of the permit system. The IGP has directed relevant departments within the Force to ensure that the process becomes more user-friendly, accessible, and secure, both for physical applicants and those using contactless digital platforms.

ACP Adejobi further stated that the extension will allow the NPF to complete vital updates, including enhanced verification mechanisms, simplified procedures, and the elimination of delays and bottlenecks which had previously led to public dissatisfaction.

As part of its continued effort to curb malpractice and ensure accountability, the NPF reiterated that the official portal for all Tinted Glass Permit applications and renewals remains www.possap.gov.ng. The public is advised to avoid unofficial channels and to promptly report any unauthorized or hidden charges, as well as incidents of extortion during application or biometric capture, to police authorities.

To support this effort, the Police have made available a dedicated reporting hotline: 09169967000, encouraging citizens to take an active role in promoting accountability within the system.

The Nigeria Police Force reassured the public of its unwavering commitment to public safety, digital innovation, and continuous improvement in service delivery, acknowledging the patience and cooperation of Nigerians as these important reforms are carried out.

“We remain focused on building a police force that is responsive to the needs of the people and transparent in its operations,” the statement concluded.
