IGP Commissions Katampe Police Div .HQ, a New Officers’ Quarters: to Boost for Policing Housing in Abuja By Raymond Enoch
In a bold stride toward enhancing security infrastructure and boosting the welfare of its personnel, the Nigeria Police Force today witnessed the commissioning of a newly constructed Divisional Headquarters in Katampe, Abuja, alongside with a groundbreaking modern 6-man Rank and File Quarters.
The historic event was presided over by the Assistant Inspector-General of Police, Zone 7 Headquarters, AIG Victor Olaiya psc(+), on behalf of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Egbetokun Olukayode Adeolu. It marks a significant milestone in the Force’s efforts to reform its operations and uplift the morale of its officers.
“This is more than bricks and mortar,” said IGP Egbetokun in a statement delivered by AIG Olaiya. “Improved infrastructure and adequate welfare remain essential to boosting the morale and professionalism of police personnel.”
The newly unveiled Smart Divisional Police Headquarters is expected to serve as a modern policing hub for the Katampe district, equipped to improve community relations and security responsiveness.
In a related development a groundbreaking commissioning ceremony also took place for a 6-man Rank and File Quarters—an initiative of the Nigeria Police Trust Fund (NPTF)—which targets a longstanding issue of housing for junior officers.
Speaking at the event, Mohammed Sheidu, Executive Secretary of the NPTF, reaffirmed the Fund’s commitment to the welfare of police officers and their operational readiness. “These projects are part of a broader transformation agenda that aligns with the vision of the current police leadership,” he said.
The twin ceremonies drew a diverse crowd of senior government officials, traditional rulers, journalists, and local residents. Many attendees praised the development as a timely intervention in improving not just the working conditions of the police, but also community safety.
As the day concluded with speeches, smiles, and high expectations, the message was clear: the journey toward a safer Nigeria rests heavily on a well-supported and professional police force—and today marked another firm step in that direction.
