H.E. Dr. Omar Alieu Touray, President of the ECOWAS Commission, Calls for Stronger RECs at G20 Ministerial Conference

The President of the Economic Community of West African States ( ECOWAS) H E Dr Omar Aliu Touray in a resounding call for enhanced regional cooperation, addressed the G20 Ministerial Conferences at Johannesburg South Africa.

Dr. Touray underscored the urgent need to strengthen Regional Economic Communities (RECs) as a cornerstone for achieving global solidarity, equality, and sustainability.
Dr. Touray emphasized that robust RECs would foster deeper international collaboration, enhance multilateralism, and accelerate economic integration across continents.

He further highlighted debt sustainability as a key driver of inclusive development, urging global leaders to prioritize policies that ensure financial stability and equitable growth within regional blocs.
The G20, an influential intergovernmental forum comprising 19 sovereign countries, the European Union, and the African Union, convened under the presidency of South Africa.
The meeting, officiated by President Cyril Ramaphosa, brought together world leaders to discuss pressing global challenges, with Africa’s role in economic development taking center stage.
Dr. Touray’s call for stronger RECs aligns with ECOWAS’s long-term vision of fostering regional stability and economic resilience. His address resonated with global stakeholders, reinforcing the pivotal role of African economies in shaping a more equitable and sustainable global order.
