German-Nigerian Relations Remain Cordial — Envoy.

In a continued effort to strengthen its relationship with the Nigerian media, the German Embassy in Nigeria hosted a media reception on Thursday, September 4, 2025, in Abuja. The event was organized to formally introduce the Embassy’s new Press Counsellor, Mr. Felix Haala, and other key members of its communication team to media stakeholders. It also provided a platform for informal engagement and collaboration with the press.

Speaking at the event, Chargé d’Affaires Mr. Johannes Lehne described Nigeria as a strategic partner of the German government. He emphasized the importance of strong media relations in fostering bilateral cooperation and promoting mutual understanding between the two nations.

“Nigeria is the giant of Africa, rich in diversity and potential. The media plays a vital role in shaping perception and facilitating dialogue. Strengthening our ties with Nigerian media is key to enhancing Germany-Nigeria relations,” he said.

Mr. Lehne also highlighted the upcoming Germany-Nigeria Bi-National Commission meeting scheduled for November 2025, noting that trade relations between both countries have witnessed significant growth. He expressed optimism that such progress would continue, yielding mutual benefits.

Mr. Felix Haala, the newly appointed Press Counsellor, expressed enthusiasm about his new role and the opportunity to engage with the Nigerian media landscape.

“I am excited to work closely with media professionals in Nigeria. Establishing strong, trustworthy partnerships is essential for promoting credible and responsible journalism,” Haala stated.

Also in attendance was Ms. Lorena Mohr, Political Affairs Officer at the German Embassy, who expressed her eagerness to learn from the Nigerian media and underscored its critical role in the success of the German mission in the country.

The event concluded with a networking session and refreshments, providing a relaxed atmosphere for media professionals and Embassy officials to interact and explore avenues for future collaboration.
