FRSC Mobilizes Nationwide Effort to Ensure Safe and Smooth 2025 Eid-el-Fitr.

In preparation for the 2025 Eid-el-Fitr celebrations, the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has launched an extensive nationwide operation aimed at ensuring the safety of millions of commuters traveling for the holiday. The operation, which runs from Thursday, March 27 to April 2, 2025, focuses on reducing traffic crashes, fatalities, and gridlocks while providing prompt responses to distress calls and ensuring the swift removal of road obstructions.
This comprehensive initiative involves the deployment of the FRSC’s full operational capacity, including 157 administrative vehicles, 754 patrol vehicles, 143 ambulances, and 48 tow trucks. Special marshals are also stationed at critical points across the country to assist in the smooth flow of traffic. Radar guns will be used to monitor speed violations, and 16 traffic control camps have been set up along high-traffic routes.
The Corps Marshal, Shehu Mohammed, has emphasized the importance of ensuring road safety during a period often marked by high traffic volumes, excessive speed, and overloaded vehicles. Historically, the Eid period has seen an uptick in road incidents, particularly due to the impatience of motorists and the use of mechanically deficient vehicles. These factors, Mohammed noted, lead to dangerous driving behaviors, crashes, and traffic congestion.
“The major causes of chaos and indiscipline during this period include excessive speed, overloading, and route violations,” said Mohammed. “We are taking an early and proactive approach to ensure safer roads and smoother travel for all road users.”
The operation is designed to cover key routes, including the Sokoto-Tambuwal-Jega-Birnin Kebbi corridor, the Abuja-Kaduna-Kano route, the Ibadan-Ogere-Sagamu corridor, and more. FRSC personnel will operate in shifts around the clock, including night rescue teams, and the Corps will be available for real-time reporting through its mobile application, as well as through social media platforms and the 122 toll-free helpline.
Along with enforcing traffic laws, the FRSC is collaborating with various agencies, including the Nigeria Police Force, the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), and military units, to address traffic congestion and enforce laws that target reckless driving behaviors, such as dangerous overtaking, use of mobile phones while driving, and improper use of seat belts.
In addition to the ongoing public enlightenment campaigns, mobile courts will be deployed nationwide to swiftly address traffic violations. The Corps is also working with emergency service providers to ensure immediate response to road crashes and traffic-related emergencies.
“We urge the motoring public to plan their journeys ahead, avoid distractions, and abide by traffic laws,” said Mohammed, stressing the importance of cooperation between road users and the FRSC to ensure a safe and successful Eid celebration.
For updates on traffic situations, road users are encouraged to use the FRSC’s mobile app and social media platforms or reach out through the National Traffic Radio at 107.1 FM.
As the nation gears up for the holiday, the FRSC remains steadfast in its commitment to ensuring the safety of road users and minimizing risks on the roads during the festive period.
