FRSC Busts Car Theft Ring, Recovers Stolen Vehicle in Ekiti By Raymond Enoch

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has recorded a major breakthrough in its fight against automobile-related crimes with the recovery of a suspected stolen vehicle in Ekiti State through its National Vehicle Identification Scheme (NVIS) platform.

The recovery, which took place on March 23, 2026, at the NVIS Desk Office in Ado Ekiti, followed a routine manual data upload that exposed irregularities in the vehicle’s chassis number. The inconsistency was flagged after a Motor Vehicle Officer from Emure Local Government Area submitted details that did not align with the standard manufacturer’s sequence for a Toyota Camry 2006 model.

Acting on the anomaly, the NVIS Desk Officer corrected the chassis number and ran it through the national database, revealing a match with a vehicle reported stolen two years ago. The original owner was promptly contacted and confirmed the theft, triggering a coordinated recovery effort.

Subsequent actions by the FRSC, in collaboration with the Nigeria Police, led to the successful recovery of the vehicle on March 31, 2026, at about 10:30 a.m. by officers from Irewolede Police Station in Ilorin, Kwara State.

The Corps said the operation underscores the growing efficiency of the NVIS database and the importance of inter-agency collaboration in tackling vehicle theft across the country.

FRSC reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening vehicle documentation processes and cracking down on all forms of fraud, urging members of the public to ensure proper verification of vehicle details to avoid legal consequences.

The Corps also reiterated its resolve to enhance road safety and national security through intelligence-driven operations and strategic enforcement nationwide.
