The Corps Marshal of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Shehu Mohammed, has lauded the Sokoto State Government for its unwavering support toward the Corps, emphasizing that such goodwill enhances service delivery.

Speaking at the Sokoto State Sector Command on Wednesday, February 12, 2025, during a combined parade of FRSC personnel—including the Zonal Command, Sector Command, Special Marshals, and Road Safety Club members—Mohammed expressed appreciation for the robust partnership between FRSC and the state government.

He highlighted how the state’s investment in road infrastructure has led to a reduction in traffic violations and road crashes. “The donation of a patrol vehicle to the Sector Command and other commitments from the Governor underscore a leadership that prioritizes road safety,” he stated.

The Corps Marshal acknowledged the sacrifices and dedication of FRSC staff, particularly during the 2024 end-of-year special patrol.

He assured them that their welfare, training, and career progression remain top priorities for his administration. “Management will continue to reward excellence and ensure due process is followed in all activities,” he added.

Recalling his early years as an officer in Sokoto, Mohammed urged personnel to maintain professionalism, discipline, and accountability. “Everyone must justify the trust placed in them by the government and the Nigerian people,” he emphasized.

On the broader efforts to enhance road safety, the Corps Marshal expressed gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for providing logistics support to the FRSC.

He also acknowledged key stakeholders and the media for their role in public enlightenment on road safety.

However, he voiced concern over the persistent issues of overloading and fuel scooping during tanker crashes in the state. “People must understand that petroleum products are highly inflammable, and such reckless actions only lead to avoidable tragedies,” he cautioned.

As part of his visit, the Corps Marshal engaged with stakeholders and the media, emphasizing the collective responsibility in road safety management. His two-day visit to Sokoto is set to continue on Thursday with a meeting with Governor Ahmed Aliyu and the Sultan of Sokoto, His Eminence, Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar III.

With Sokoto State emerging as a model of government-FRSC collaboration, the Corps Marshal’s visit reinforces the importance of sustained investment in road safety initiatives for a safer Nigeria.
