France and ECOWAS Launch €18 Million Boost for West African Dairy and Livestock Resilience. By Raymond Enoch

In a landmark move to strengthen food security and regional livelihoods, an €18 million grant agreement was signed yesterday in Abuja between the French Development Agency (AFD) and ECOWAS (Cedeao). The funding will support two major regional projects aimed at enhancing local milk production and building resilient livestock systems across West Africa and the Sahel.

The initiatives are designed to not only bolster local dairy production but also create youth employment opportunities, improve climate resilience, and promote sustainable agricultural practices in the region. Officials emphasized that these efforts align with broader goals of regional stability and economic growth.

“This partnership is more than an investment in agriculture; it’s an investment in livelihoods, sustainability, and the future of West Africa,” said the French Development Agency representative.

The projects underscore the growing collaboration between international partners and regional bodies to address pressing food security challenges while empowering local communities.

With this funding, local dairy farmers and livestock producers are expected to benefit from improved infrastructure, technical support, and climate-smart strategies, fostering both economic and environmental resilience.
